Walked in with no reservation at 6pm on a Friday. They had no tables free but did offer the bar to eat at. Service was excellent. We had the 2 course for €30. Salami pizza was amazing and the tiramisu was so light. You can see where they make the food through the wall. Wine menu was great too and they did have beer. Would recommend and will definitely be returning. The only thing is it is cash only. It’s displayed on the menu so just make sure to bring cash but otherwise it’s worth it 100%
My partner and I came here for dinner as it was a special date night, and we had been looking forward to trying this restaurant for quite some time.
As soon as we arrived, we were told that they only accepted cash payments. This wasn't mentioned when we booked, nor was there any sign informing customers beforehand. Unfortunately, we only had enough cash to pay for the two tasting menus (€32 per person), which meant we couldn't order any drinks.
I explained to our waitress that, as it was a special occasion, I would have loved a glass of wine with my meal. I asked whether it would be possible to pay for the drinks by Revolut or an instant bank transfer. She was very polite and went to ask the manager, who I believe was called Fiona. The answer was simply "no", with no willingness to offer any alternative or try to help.
What disappointed us even more was the manager's attitude throughout the evening. The restaurant is very small, and with two large tables in at the same time it became extremely noisy. Fiona seemed to spend all her time chatting with and looking after those larger tables, who appeared to be local customers or people she knew personally. We, on the other hand, were barely acknowledged and felt completely overlooked.
For the record, we weren't tourists passing through. I've lived in Cork for several years and absolutely love Kinsale, which is one of the reasons we were so keen to dine here.
The food itself was very good, and that's the only reason I'm giving two stars rather than one. Sadly, good food cannot make up for poor hospitality. Customer service is just as important as what's on the plate, and unfortunately the lack of warmth, flexibility and professionalism completely spoiled what should have been a lovely evening.
We could easily have chosen another restaurant that night, but we decided to come here because we had high expectations. Sadly, we left feeling disappointed, and we won't be returning.
